"La notte piccante" is back in Catanzaro |
The magic of "La Notte Piccante" is back. Next 26 September the old centre of Catanzaro will once again be brought to life with stands, non-stop shopping, cultural as well as musical events. The event organised by the City Council’s Tourism Office, led by Roberto Talarico, attracted two hundred thousand people last year. And given the success achieved and the media, an even greater turnout is expected this year.
Taking inspiration from local colour and unique characteristics, the fair’s central theme will be red, a distinguishing element of the traditions of Catanzaro in general, particularly in terms of food and wine, whose arch representatives will once again be the "u morzeddhu" chili pepper and fine local wine. La Notte Piccante (the Hot Night) is set to enliven all the streets and squares of the old town centre perched on the legendary three hills. The Goddess of chili pepper is all set to descend upon the locals as well as all those who will be making their merry way to Catanzaro. "Some like it White... we like it Hot" was the slogan for the first year of Calabria’s most cult fair, while "Sei bellissima" (you are beautiful) is the slogan that will promote this year’s "La Notte Piccante". A message that goes beyond a mere slogan, to conjure up the image of a pretty girl – in this case the old centre of Catanzaro and the Notte Piccante. All this will be promoted with radio ads and TV commercials as part of a major advertising campaign. In fact, the promotion of "La Notte Piccante" is a promotion of the old centre of Catanzaro: its museums, buildings and tourist-religious itineraries. An event with an instant affect on the image and economics of the town, but also instrumental in the subsequent re-launch of the role of Catanzaro as Calabria’s leading city. Next 26 September, the ancient heart of the Calabrian capital awaits you for a wonderful night together, from 6 pm until sunrise the next day.
Catanzaro, how to get there
Its fortunate geographical position in the centre of the Calabrian peninsula means the regional capital is easy to reach from the north as well as from the south. It can be reached from the Adriatic side by taking the E 90 that crosses the city’s Marinaro quarter, and from the Tyrrhenian side taking the A3 motorway, which at the exit for Catanzaro meets the SS. 280 (known as the "Due Mari"), a road with all the characteristics of a motorway: four lanes, (two in each direction) continuous central reservation, lay-bys and hard shoulder. The SS 280 takes you right into the heart of the city thanks to the connection with viale De Filippis. By train, Catanzaro is crossed by the Jonica railway line, with the main train station being in the Marinaro district, while a new station is currently being built in the Germaneto district.
