Reggio: Face Festival kicks off tomorrow
The countdown has begun for the start of FACE, the Festival of Art, Creativity and Eco-culture, which kicks off tomorrow 7 August 2009 in the splendid, evocative location that saw its inception: Ecolandia – the ecological park built on the ruins of the old fortress of Arghillà (North Reggio Calabria).
This year’s event promises a host of surprises, novelties and a mix of different forms of artistic expression, from theatre to music, sculpture, video art, installation and live performances. A wide variety of art forms whose diversity and affinity go towards making this year’s Face festival unique.
Plenty of opportunities for further study, particularly in the artistic sphere, can be had in the photography workshops organised by eminent masters Rudy Pessina - founder and president of the Imago Cultural Association (Pisa) which creates and stages photography exhibitions, video events and multimedia performances - and Graziano Panfili, winner of the International Photography Award of the Year 2008 in New York.
The digital photography workshop organised by Graziano Panfili (1-2 August) promises to be a veritable two-day package with the goal of deepening understanding of the notions, philosophy, tricks and secrets of reportage and street photography.
The similar Workshop for black and white photography (3-4 August) held by Rudy Pessina will be divided into three meetings: the snapshot, negative treatment and printing in camera oscura. Imago Cultural Association will be at the festival with "Di segni di luce" by photographer Rudy Pessina and "Camera Clara 21" by photographer Salvo Parrinello.
As always, music will be given ample space at this year’s festival too.
Expectations are running high for 1st August, when the Face stage welcomes ALLA BUA, the well-known band born of the most traditional forms of Salento musical culture. A group formed amidst the legendary San Rocco festival in Torrepaduli, the Santu Lazzaru chants of Easter processions and the traditional court festivals full of wine, hearty song and tambourines.
The OPEN MIC evening, scheduled for August 3rd, gives space to those who wish to express themselves through voices, rhythms and music, featuring a wide range of different musical genres. Participating musicians will be able to interact freely with each other in a final jamming session.
Further study opportunities for music will also be provided with the Harmonica Blues Workshop, held by Domenico and Fabrizio Canale (6 August), aiming to allow participants to discover the history and potential of the Blues Harp with live performances, instruction, theory and practice.
The social value of Face Festival lies in its mix of resources and its cultural, traditional yet at the same time modern stimuli, which the event turns into solid ideas for cultural and social renewal.
